Protecting Sexual Function: Why Aquablation Matters
By Dr. Ahmed Ali Alnaimi, Consultant Urological Surgeon
For many men, the fear of losing sexual function is the main reason they delay prostate treatment. It is a valid concern. Several traditional procedures commonly cause retrograde ejaculation, where semen flows backwards into the bladder, and some carry a risk of erectile problems.
Aquablation was designed with this in mind. During planning, the surgeon identifies the areas linked to ejaculation and continence and excludes them from treatment. The heat-free waterjet then removes only the mapped tissue, without the thermal spread that can damage nearby nerves.
The result is that most men keep their ejaculatory and erectile function after treatment, while still gaining strong, lasting relief from urinary symptoms.
If preserving your sex life is important to you, say so at your consultation. It is a central part of choosing the right treatment, and it is nothing to feel embarrassed about.
Every prostate, and every patient, is different. A consultation gives you a clear picture of your own options.
